Starts at the car park at the back of Appledore village hall. We visit the remote church at Kenardington and go on to locate the Royal Military Canal, with open views over the marshes, where we follow its banks back to Appledore. The canal was dug in 1804 as what seems a somewhat meagre defence against a feared Napoleonic invasion - intended to slow the same 'crack troops' who successfully crossed the Danube in battle! We will stop at a pub in Appledore at the end of the walk for a drink or for those who wish, an optional lunch (if available).
