In 2001, Morzine, which can be found between Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva, was voted the 5th best ski resort in the world in the Daily Telegraph Travel Awards, and is just 1 hour from the famous Chamonix Mont ski area. Blanc.
A historic Savoyarde market town, Morzine has managed to preserve it's original alpine charm despite being a gateway to 650 km of ski runs, and located slap bang in the middle of the Portes du Soleil ski area.
With both sides of the Les Gets Valley accessible to skiers and boarders, the resort is divided into 3 sectors: Pleney is found above the town and to the West, Super Morzine is located to the East (along with the main ski link to Avoriaz) and Nyon-Chamossiere to the North.
Every level of skier and snowboarder is amply catered for here in the Portes du Soleil ski area - plentiful wide and gentle nursery slopes for the beginner, intermediates can make the most of the superb array of tree-lined runs, wide pistes and big bowls with the entire Portes du Soleil ski area accessible on blues and reds. For the more advanced skier, there are famous runs such as the Swiss Wall and the World Cup Downhill black plus the challenging full day Portes du Soleil circuit, which covers 80km of pistes and 2 countries without ever having to take the same lift twice!
For snowboarders, Morzine has been voted as one of the best resorts boasting great freeride, pipes, parks and rails, with the best super-pipe in Europe situated in neighbouring Avoriaz! A true Mecca for snowboarders of every level.
The Portes du Soleil ski area is so vast that during a week's holiday, it is actually possible to ski/snowboard in a different area every day!
Not just a superb resort from a purely skiing perspective, the apres-ski scene in the town of Morzine is lively and varied with a great selection of reasonably priced bars and even a couple of nightclubs. There are over 30 restaurants ranging from small bistros to pizzerias to traditional gourmet Savoyard style restaurants.
For those who fancy a break from the slopes, there are a number of other activities on offer in Morzine, including the following:
