Online dating success stories - we know they exist but what percentage of people actual share this information with either the dating company that helped them meet or even their friends and family? We’ve all heard an internet dating horror story I expect – women returning from the toilet with their skirt tucked into their knickers, dates obsessing over their ex’s and exaggerated online dating profiles.
But hang on a minute… what about those internet dating success stories? What about those who find love after meeting through online dating, at a singles event like speed dating or on a singles holiday?
Research into British behaviour suggests that only 2/10 of us let others know when they have had a good experience, but this rises to a whopping 7/10 who want to shout from the rooftops when they have endured a bad experience with anything. Typical Brits – we never complain to those responsible but grumble to all of our friends and family – we’re just too polite!
It seems that online dating is just the same.
Whist many want to share with the world their disastrous date, those who find ‘the one’ are content with keeping their life-changing experience all too quiet. Is it because we’re still worried about the stigma of meeting someone via a dating service?
I went Smart Dating in Hull in the August of 2005 and met my wife there. We’ve now been married for 16 months and have a son and another one on the way. We still laugh about how we met speed dating. Yours Lance and Nichola.

I went to a Smart Dating speed dating event last September, I have to admit at the time I was a little nervous about it and was cajoled into going along with a friend!
I had a great evening though, it was a very well attended event and I enjoyed chatting to loads of different people (all with film star aliases!). Brad Pitt in particular caught my eye and I “ticked” him the next day – we met up later that week and have been together ever since. It was the first time speed dating for both of us so really was a great success!

Hi Smart Dating
I came to one of your Cheltenham events on the 12th May 2009. I had never been speed dating before and came with a friend. The evening was very relaxed and my nerves soon eased thanks to the aid of the organizer.
I had a fabulous evening and meet a wonderful guy who could not be more perfect! We exchanged details and even in such a short time I have never looked back. I could never have hoped or expected that I would meet my ultimate soul mate at one of your events so a massive thank you smart dating.
Both of us were unsure about coming and we laugh about it now how easily we could have missed meeting each other. I was Jennifer Anniston and he was Hugh Grant. So again thank you on behalf of both of us for introducing us to each other.
