The 'requirement' to add any information at all puts a lot of people off! Many are very wary of displaying thier photo and lots of information on the internet, let alone the more 'obscure' info you mention. Many also prefer to keep their profiles brief as it gives them plenty to chat about when someone does contact them. I think we deserve the choice over what and how much info we disclose.

Also something else to think about is "When should I be ready to date again?" Allow yourself upto 1 month for each year your last relationship lasted to grieve and heal yourself and if after that time you are still pining for your ex, consider getting some help from a counsellor or coach.

Two and a half years ago I went speed dating. Last Saturday (23rd July 2011) I married the man I met there!

I actually met my husband Simon at two speed dating events - the first time I wasn't confident enough to put yes so I just selected friend, he put yes. Unfortunately we never made contact because he thought I wasn't interested as I didn't put a firm yes. The second time though, seven months later, I was brave enough to put yes and this time he contacted me. The second time may indeed never have happened - I had just been "dumped" by someone I had been briefly seeing and had been quite upset, Smart dating happened to text me an offer and I thought "well, what do I have to lose?". Simon received the same offer as well, although was unsure about trying it again - luckily for me he did and the rest is history!

We are now both very happy together, living in our house with our two Labradors. We look forward to our honeymoon in the Maldives in just over a weeks time. We are very grateful to Smart dating and the chances we both took in order for our fate to finally collide.

"I feel that the tongue-in-cheeky name will be especially off-putting for the heterosexual female market."

That's women's whole damn problem - they are too superficial about what's 'acceptable' 'normal' and such social image-based thinking! That means lowest-common-denominator rules, which is pathetic, and limiting! I curse evolutionary group psychology! Then I imagine a lot of the same women turn around and complain that men are only into their looks or similar... well... what goes around comes around, en masse!

But for open-minded, open-legged (read: higher testosterone level, more adventurous) females, this might be useful. But then again, they don't tend to have a major problem these days, so it would only be the icing on the cake, unlike the situation for many (semi/closeted) gay men, I imagine.

Very funny. You should write a book to warn all the single ladies out there! I once made smalltalk with a man at a buffet table at a party who said, 'actually, I only talk to women at parties who have at least 100,000k equity in their own house'. Apparently, he confused my basic politeness with a burning desire to marry him. Keep up the good work! I look forward to reading your next missive

Pierce Brosnan, Gabriel Byrne, Errol Flynn, Dermot Mulroney, Jonathan Rhys Myers, Owen McDonnell, Colin Farrell... yeah, all hit with the ugly stick, all right!

I would suggest this online dating service which, by its very nature deals in superficials, has also succumbed to peddling physical stereotypes (Irishmen are red-headed leprechauns with a potato balanced behind one ear, perhaps?)
